SCORE: 49/100. UNSATISFACTORY.
I had a little bit of hope that this would be one of those unfairly rated albums - but that idea in my mind changed as soon as I heard a little bit from this album. I was a big fan of her debut (and previously only) album, but this does not hold up at all in comparison. It's like comparing dirt to a precious metal (this album is the dirt).
Paris uses a weird autotune on her voice that doesn't do her any favors. I was excited for this album but the way this was done is just... not it. The cover looks like AI generated art and the music might as well be too with the complete lack of originality or interesting ideas.
'Infinite Icon' is one of those summer radio pop albums done too late. The album has the feeling you get and hear from a radio station in the mid summer, and it isn't the best sound, especially for a FULL LP OF MUSIC. Songs like these ones work in small doses, but anything more is something that almost isn't easy to sit through.
This is easy pop. Paris took the easy and commercial route and lacked creativity with this album. I do like that she is back on the music scene - but this is more than just a disappointing return, it would be a disappointing album if it were ANYONE backing it.
It isn't a horrible album by any means - it isn't even really a bad album; but it just repeats the same sounds and stereotypical musical elements over and over again - it's mind numbing in all of the wrong ways.
There are some good songs on here - 'Fame Won't Love You' is especially a highlight, but this album is overall inconsistent and in no way, shape, or form what it could've been. This had the potential to be a sexy, sassy, and fun pop album - and it tried to be, but it just missed the mark time and time again throughout the 35 minute runtime that drags along.
It's a mixed bag with some good songs and some bad - but it comes together to be a repetitive album overall.
Favorite tracks/songs I enjoyed more than the others:
-BBA
-Fame Won't Love You
-Legacy
-Infinity
-If the Earth is Spinning (why was this not just called 'Earth is Spinning'?)
Least favorites:
-Welcome Back
-ADHD (somewhat catchy? But such a boring track with an iffy display of a "deeper" message)
-Adored (good-ish song? Kind of? Mixed feelings for this one)
